Hugo Åbergs Memorial will be the fifth race running within the Sweden Major Races 2018 series. The tradition of Hugo Åbergs Memorial first started as a memorial race for Hugo Åberg who was a builder and a great profile for harness racing at Jägersro. The first edition of the race took place 1970. And since then the race always takes place the last Tuesday in July at Sweden’s southernmost racetrack. This year it will be July 31th and the track is of course Jägersro. The race is a Group I international race with the first prize of SEK 1 million.
Last year’s winner Propulsion won at for the second year in a row. The race usually invites to great times with well-prepared tracks and amazing horses. The most successful trainer in the race is the legend Stig H. Johansson who has 7 victories as a trainer. And the biggest surprise in the race was 1971 when Atout de Moulin won at 43 times the money.
The event is of course surrounded with lots of festivities. One of them is Kolgjini Sales that has become a traditional happening during the week. It is a yearling sale at the famous trainer Lutfi Kolgjinis stable.
