Major Races

Norrbottens Stora Pris, June 15 at Boden racetrack.

The fantastic race in the Midnight Sun!

A race with a first prize of 1 million SEK on Sweden’s northernmost racetrack, Boden! A price sum on race like this should not be possible on such a small track, but the tradition is strong in the amazing north of Sweden. And something the northerners are very proud of.

The first prize is guaranteed by several sponsors who likes to promote Boden and the Group I International race Norrbottens Stora Pris. The million in first prize has been a reality since 2012 and the race has seen participants such as winners of the Elitloppet and other international top horses. The winner the past three years has been the same horse, Propulsion Trained by Daniel Redén and driven by Örjan Kihlström. It seems that he likes the midnight sun and the fresh air in the north of Sweden. We believe that Propulsion will make himself immortal and capture the heart of all racing fans and win his fourth win in a row 2019.

The race day with Norrbottens Stora Pris has grown during the years and is besides a great trotting event also a large festival with over 10 000 in the audience every year.

The spectators come not just from Sweden but from all the Nordic countries and other parts of Europe to see top horses and top drivers compete with the Midnight Sun as fantastic scenery. The combination Midnight Sun and world class racing is something unique for Boden - in the far reaches of the amazing north.

Elitloppet

The story of Elitloppet starts in 1952 when Solvalla celebrated its 25th year as a race track. The track wanted to celebrate with a big international race. Since the race was meant to be a celebration, it was first called Jubileumsloppet and did not take the name Elitloppet until the year after. Back then international participants traveled by train, today horses from have their own private plane. The biggest legend in the history of Elitloppet is Stig H. Johansson who has participated in 28 editions of the race and won 6 times.

Jubileums pokalen

The story of Jubileumspokalen starts the same way as Elitloppet, as a celebration for Solvalla. This time the celebration was for Solvalla’s 50th year as a race track. Jubileumspokalen is the sixth stage of the Sweden Major Races 2018 series. The race was from the beginning open for all horses, but in 2009 it was decided that it would be a 5-year-old race competition. Since then we have seen a lot of stars win the race: Nuncio, Iceland, Varenne and Zoogin to mention a few. Last year’s winner was Readly Express, the winner of Prix d’Amerique 2018.
