There is a jackpot in play for V86® on Wednesday, and one of the hottest trainers in the country, Daniel Wäjersten, is the key to the card with several interesting starters that will be heavily used.
"We have nice horses in good form. L'Amour Mearas is a horse above average and should be our best chance," says Oskar Florhed, assistant trainer in the Wäjersten stable.
Romme racetrack hosts V86® this Wednesday, and the card is boosted by a jackpot with SEK 12 million in the pool for all eight winners picked. Daniel Wäjersten rolls on and races frequently, now in the high season of trotting. So far this year, the stable has generated SEK 14.5 million in earnings and achieved a winning percentage of 26 percent. Wäjersten has six starters on the V86 card, two of which are favorites and several others that will be frequently used on the tickets. Fittingly, we had a chat with the assistant trainer, Oskar Florhed, who, as always, knows everything about the horses and offers interesting information, as usual. We go through them as they appear in the program.
"12 Before Takeoff (V86-1) is in excellent form, and after two straight wins, he was also very good at Solvalla, last time out when he was locked in and never got the chance. I'm sure he could have won that race, had he just gotten out. We have tried to maintain his form after that start, and he feels great in training. These are entirely different conditions with post position twelve over 2,600 meters. We can only hope that our opponents make some mistakes and that we can capitalize on them. If not, it looks tough. The plan is to race him in the Sprint Championship after this start. No changes, he will keep on racing barefoot and in a regular style sulky," says Oskar Florhed.
"1 Lionel Mearas (V86-4) won easily in his most recent start, and he's a capable horse. But he's big and leggy, so the inside post might not be the best for him since he has a long gait. A post further out toward the middle of the track would have been better for him, to help him accelerate. There's a risk of him getting away slowly from here. Other than that, he's strong and tough, and we think he could climb through the classes a bit. No changes, shoes all around, and a regular style sulky."
"A horse above average — our best chance on the V86 card"
"3 L'Amour Mearas (V86-4) is a very nice horse and clearly above average. He won three in a row last fall and wasn't trained to be sharp before his seasonal debut. He still raced great and finished second behind a very good winner, and I'm sure he will improve a lot with that start in his legs. I think this horse will have a great summer. He drew well behind the gate and should do very well in a race like this. I would say he is our best chance on the V86 card. No changes, shoes all around, and a regular style sulky again."
"6 Lizmark (V86-4) has raced in tough V75 races, and he does his best each time. He doesn't leave very fast and usually has to do a lot of the hard work himself, because of that. He steps down in class now, and he could win a race soon if the pace is high enough, since he's very strong. Maybe not this time, though, but his form is good, and last time out he was in a tough race that Bold Eagle Sun won. He has post six again, as many times before (five times in his last six starts). No changes, barefoot and a regular style sulky."
Undefeated in four starts — "A nice son of Readly Express"
"1 Mellby Mowgli (V86-5) is a nice son of Readly Express who is undefeated in four starts. Even if it has been cheap races at home, he has shown the right attitude and been unused in every start. We aim a bit higher this time, and it's a tougher race, but our horse is nice, and he gets better with each start. He has a long stride, as many Readly Express offsprings do, so we will see how fast he can leave from his inside post. If he doesn't get locked in, he should be a contender again. No changes, shoes all around, and a regular style sulky."
"1 Kilgore (V86-8) is consistent and reliable and races well every time. If you look at how fast he trots and compare that to his opponents, you can evaluate his chances yourself, but they won't leave him behind. I think he can be a contender again, now that he drew well, and with some racing luck, he could win a race soon. American sulky this time when he starts behind the gate (regular style sulky in his last start) and barefoot again and no other changes," says Oskar Florhed.
