V85®: The in-form stable heads to Bollnäs loaded for success
Last week has been one long victory parade for Daniel Wäjersten's stable.
On Saturday, when V85 is held at Bollnäs, the signs point to even more success.
"We're racing really nice horses. Mellby Joker and Youans Son are our best chances," says assistant trainer Oskar Florhed.
The Daniel Wäjersten stable has shifted into another gear this summer and has won more than every other race over the past couple of weeks. They've also captured two major stakes victories. Gio Cash won the Årjäng Sprint Championship two Saturdays ago, and as recently as this past Sunday, Kuiper joined the elite ranks by winning the St. Michel-Ajo in Finland."We haven't done anything special. The horses are doing well, the staff is doing well, and there's a great atmosphere around the stable," says assistant trainer Oskar Florhed.
On Saturday, V85 heads north to Bollnäs, which hosts this week's rich wagering form, boosted by a jackpot. The Wäjersten stable sends out eight starters, and several of them are expected to end up betting favorites.
"We're going there with horses in good form, and hopefully we'll have a little racing luck and come home with one or two victories. On paper, Mellby Joker and Youans Son look like our best chances."

A suitable race for him
First out is 1 Crowe Motion (V85-1), who made a break in his most recent start."That was a little surprising and unexpected. He felt terrific before the race and even after the break. He's not an unsafe horse, so it's a bit concerning, but he's continued training strongly."
"The inside post at Bollnäs isn't ideal for him. The starting gate accelerates a bit unevenly down the stretch, and that doesn't suit him. He's at his best with cover, and if things work out with the trip, he's good enough to be right there at the finish. We're not making any changes."
In the Bollnäsloppet, which is also V85-4, the stable sends out a sharp-looking pair.
"1 Mellby Joker (V85-4) looked really good last time, and he also raced well in his previous start. He continues to feel excellent in training, and he's very explosive behind the gate, so the rail won't be any problem for him. We're not making any changes, and this is a suitable race for him."
"5 Kingen Mearas (V85-4) was locked in with plenty left last time. That's usually something a horse benefits from in the next start. He feels good in training, and he's the kind of horse who rarely, if ever, turns in a poor performance. Horses don't usually race away from him, and I don't think they will this time either, but Mellby Joker has the edge."

The stable sends out three starters in V85-7, a handicap event.
"1 Illuminato (V85-7) raced uncovered three-wide throughout the final lap last time and still turned in a good effort. He's still fairly inexperienced and doesn't yet have that kind of speed in his legs.""The inside post is not good for him. He's not particularly quick away out of the gate, and he likely won't hold up the lead. He's also in tough against more seasoned and tougher horses. At the same time, he has a lot of ability, keeps improving, and the distance is in his favor."
"6 Readly Brodde (V85-7) races well pretty much every time. Last time he had to do all the hard work on his own and still finished well. He's strong and genuine, and the longer distance is an advantage. Hopefully he'll get a little help along the way this time and should be right there again if things work out.""7 Lizmark (V85-7) was a little disappointing last time. He got a perfect trip in the pocket but couldn't quite keep up late. He feels good in training, so we'll give it another try. The longer distance suits him, and if there's enough pace, he should race better than he did last time."

He's good for this class
In the final leg, 3 Youans Son starts after generating plenty of buzz."We thought very highly of him before last season, and he was one of our better three-year-olds, but things didn't quite work out with him. We're hoping he has it all together this year, and he's started the season very positively. He's developing rapidly, and the post is good even though he's not a blazing leaver who can fully take advantage of it. We're not making any changes, and he's good for this class."
"10 Griffin Kronos (V85-8) raced well when second last time in a fast race. The winner was simply better that day, and Griffin Kronos had to chase throughout the race. He's getting stronger physically, and this time he'll race barefoot all around for the first time. He's a pacy horse, and that should have a positive effect. The feeling is that he'll turn in a strong performance."
